Interested in supporting our work? Explore the following ways to contribute.
Make a donation
Consider supporting NCLT by making either a recurring or one-time contribution. Your donation will help us in our mission to incubate, develop, and support permanently affordable housing on community-owned and governed land.
You can also send your contributions by mail to our office at 3120 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94610.
Gift real estate
We gladly accept gifts of homes, land, or other properties that we can permanently manage for the benefit of the community. We also welcome other real estate gifts that, with the donor's permission to sell, can further our strategic acquisition of land and housing for low-income residents.
-
Make a gift of real estate during your lifetime or arrange for a bequest as a living legacy.
-
This allows you to donate your home to NCLT while retaining the right to live in it until you decide otherwise, providing an immediate income tax deduction.
-
If you have a property you'd like to sell and want to support NCLT, consider donating a portion of the property's value. This difference between the sale price and appraised market value can be a tax-deductible donation.
Leave a legacy
Help NCLT expand its impact through planned giving.
Consider the following options:
-
The most common type of planned gifts, easy to arrange, and remains under your control. You can structure your bequest to leave a specific item, amount, or percentage of your estate to NCLT.
-
Designate NCLT as a beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan or Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to direct assets tax-free.
-
Designate NCLT as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
Donate stocks & securities
Contributing stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares is a tax-efficient way to support NCLT's mission. You can donate appreciated securities, and the total value upon transfer is tax-deductible without capital gains taxes.
Support via a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)
Recommend a gift to NCLT through your donor-advised fund using DAF Direct. This allows you to contribute assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to NCLT.

Disclaimer: NCLT recommends consulting with an estate planning advisor to ensure your gift aligns with your wishes, needs, and estate planning goals, considering its legal and financial implications and tax advantages.
